“The Shaughran” by Dion Boucicault
This melodramatic play was first performed in New York in 1874 and was a huge success. The play is about Robert Ffolloitt, an innocent local gentleman who was tricked into pledging himself to a criminal disguised as a Fenian – whose intent was to then betray him to the police. Robert escapes various cliff-hanger situations with the help of Conn the Shaughran.
